Primary myelofibrosis is a condition characterized by the buildup of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the spongy tissue tissue inside the bone (bone marrow), the tissue that contains the stem cells that will produce blood cells. Because of the fibrosis, the bone marrow is unable to make enough normal blood cells.


Myelofibrosis (MF) is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow. In people with MF, scar tissue builds up inside the bone marrow and blood cells are not made properly. MF can happen at any age, but it is most common in people over the age of 50.
